New Network for Pukekohe and Waiuku New Network for Pukekohe and Waiuku
New buses and bus routes were introduced in Pukekohe and Waiuku and south Auckland on Sunday 30 October 2016, when the southern New Network was launched.
What has changed
The New Network is a complete review and transformation of Auckland’s public transport network. It fundamentally changes the way bus services operate across all of Auckland.
We have launched the southern New Network on Sunday 30 October 2016. This includes:
- New bus routes.
- New bus numbers.
- New timetables – new start times and finish times.
- New information at bus stops.
- Some people will need to connect with another bus or train to complete their journey.
New features for Pukekohe
- Three new bus services for Pukekohe, running every 30 minutes, seven days a week. All three Pukekohe local loop services are seving the town centre, shopping area and are connecting with train services at the station.
- A limited bus service from Pukekohe to Wesley College/Paerata.
- Removal of bus services between Paerata and Papakura.
New features for Waiuku
Two bus services:
- A peak weekday Waiuku to Papakura service which will go via Kingseat. This is the same route as the current 479.
- A new route between Waiuku and Pukekohe, seven days a week.
Although there are plans to run the Waiuku bus route (396) through the Glenbrook Vintage Railway station at Glenbrook on Sundays when it is operating, a suitable solution for buses to stop and turn around at Glenbrook Station is still being explored.
We will continue to investigate options for buses to run there as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the 396 will travel to the Waiuku end of the Glenbrook Vintage Railway.

New features for Tuakau and Port Waikato buses
The 476 has been renumbered to 398 and the 50 has been renumbered to 399. These buses will now all travel via Massey Ave and end at Pukekohe Station. Travel to Papakura or the city will be by train. These buses have had some timetable changes to better fit with the train timetable. See the new route maps.
No more 'hail and ride'
From Sunday 30 October, buses will only stop at bus stops. There are now more than 30 new bus stops for Pukekohe and Waiuku.
Having a formal bus stop gives customers confidence of where the bus will stop and pick up, and helps drivers know where to look out for waiting passengers.
The health and safety of our customers is also top of mind for AT. By formalising bus stops we are making it illegal for other vehicles to park in these locations, giving buses more room to pull up to the kerb. This makes it easier and safer for passengers getting on and off the bus, particularly those with limited mobility, and those with small children, pushchairs etc.
Hail and ride by its nature is wherever you are, but is not always in an appropriate, safe location and also may vary from driver to driver, day-to-day, depending on where it is deemed safe by the driver to stop at any given time.
Using trains
Your train journey will stay the same. The train timetable and service frequencies will continue as it does now. Find out more about train services.
