Extreme weather events in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland caused damage to roads in 2023.
Over the last 18 months, we’ve made significant progress on repairing storm-damaged roads in the Central, Aotea and Gulf Islands area of Auckland.
Reported sites and slip repairs in Central, Aotea and Gulf Islands as of 30 September 2024:
- Total number of sites: 39 (14 major, 25 minor)
- Currently under construction: 2
- Completed sites: 20 (51%).
We have completed:
- 6 out of 14 major sites
- 14 out of 25 minor sites.
The major slips under construction are:
- Hekerua Road, Waiheke Island
- Puriri Bay Road, Aotea Great Barrier Island.
The reported number of sites requiring minor or major repairs will change slightly over time as the design and investigation of each slip site develops.

Design work to repair an underslip near 160 Bassett Road is currently under way.
Paritai Drive, Ōrākei
Road status: open
June 2024
A monitoring device called an inclinometer has been installed on this slip. It takes fortnightly measurements to see if any movement is detected in the slip.
Monitoring will continue throughout winter.
