Latest updates
We placed barriers around the site to keep you safe.
We installed temporary fencing around the construction site. It is on the grass between the Dalgety Drive park and ride and Homai Station.
We replaced a section of footpath with gravel. The section is at the bottom of the footpath by Browns Road and Dalgety Drive park and ride.
We also:
- closed a section of the footpath around the bus stop by Dalgety Drive park and ride
- constructed safe and accessible temporary footpaths
- located existing underground services and secured the works within site fences
- installed noise mitigation systems to help the public and our neighbours.
There is no change to bus stop 6105.
Night work activity started Tuesday 15 October. Works are taking place in the railway corridor and the park and ride carpark.
We will maintain 2-way traffic throughout the project. Bus services from park and ride will still run as normal.
Train service changes
There will be changes to services from Monday 14 October to late evening Friday 25 October
Buses replace trains from late evening on Monday to Thursday nights during this period.
Trains are operating as normal on Friday 18 October and Saturday 19 October until last service.

Limiting disruption
You will still be able to catch the train to and from Homai Station. Services will run as normal.
We’ve planned for the most disruptive work to take place while Auckland’s rail network is closed for maintenance:
- over Labour weekend, from late evening Friday 25 October to Monday 28 October 2024
- 27 December 2024 to 18 January 2025.
Buses will replace trains.
Timeline of work
Our contractor will set up on site from early October and finish work in early 2025.
This work is weather dependent – timings may shift. We’ll update this page to ensure that you know about any changes.
Early October
Contractors will set up the work site in the Dalgety Drive park and ride. From there, they will begin footpath upgrades and street lighting improvements.
Footpath detours will be installed along McVilly Road, Browns Road and the Dalgety Drive park and ride.
The park and ride bus stop (6105) will temporarily move 100m away. It will be adjacent to Browns Road, still within the park and ride. This will help keep customers safely away from construction activity as they wait for the bus. A temporary bus shelter will be available. Train and bus services will be running as normal.
Parking spaces will be limited during this time.
Labour Day weekend
Browns Road stairs to Homai Station will close while a new accessible ramp is built in the same location. Access to Homai Station will be from the pedestrian level crossings only. Please remember to keep to the path and always stop, look and listen for trains.
The whole rail network will be closed over Labour Day weekend, from late evening Friday 25 October to Monday 28 October. Buses will replace trains.
For more information including timetables please visit our train line status webpage.
From 27 December 2024
The 2 pedestrian level crossings will close permanently.
The whole rail network will be closed for annual maintenance from 27 December to 18 January. Buses will replace trains. For more information, including timetables, please visit our train line status webpage.
Early 2025
The new ramp from Browns Road will open.
Why we’re closing the Homai Station level crossings
Auckland Transport is working with KiwiRail and NZ Transport Agency. We want to improve our rail system for passengers, freight and inter-regional services.
We’re upgrading stations, adding more rail tracks, improving safety and opening the City Rail Link (CRL).
This will enable:
- faster travel times
- more train services
- fewer transfers between services
- improved safety along our rail network.
Every year, people are hurt and even killed at level crossings through accidents and unsafe behaviour. When CRL opens, it will double Auckland’s rail capacity, meaning more trains, more often. There will be an unacceptable increase in the risk to safety at level crossings. Closing Homai’s crossing addresses a safety risk and gives us an opportunity to make the station more accessible. It will also allow us to install other improvements requested by the community.
