To reserve parking spaces for any technical vehicles associated with a film shoot in the Auckland region, you must apply for a film parking permit. These permits are specifically for essential film equipment vehicles and are not intended for crew vehicle use.
About film parking permits
The film parking permit process is designed to:
- Allow film production companies to legally place cones to reserve parking for film equipment vehicles.
- Integrate parking applications with the AT works coordination system. This gives us greater knowledge of the location of film shoots and potential clashes of activity to allow any conflicts to be worked through before filming starts.
If you are applying for use of on-street parking, prior consultation with surrounding businesses and residents must be undertaken to ensure your activity does not unduly affect day to day operations in the area.
To film or place filming equipment in open public space such as footpaths, roads, parks, and beaches you will require a Film Permit, which are issued by Screen Auckland. Please contact Screen Auckland to discuss.
How to apply for a film parking permit
We are currently making some changes to the Film Parking Process in MyAT; until further notice please follow the below process for submissions.
- Complete a Film Parking Permit request form
- Create a site plan (mud map) showing locations of essential vehicles
- Check MyWorksites map for any potential clashes (for more information check https://screenauckland.com/before-you-film/filming-within-road-corridors)
- Send Request form and Site Plan (mud map) to filming@at.govt.nz and CC in your Screen Auckland Facilitator
Approval process
Once your application is submitted, the request will be reviewed by the AT Events team and you will receive confirmation that your permit has been approved via return email.
Please allow at least 6 working days prior to filming date for central/ CBD locations.
Please allow at least 3 working days prior to filming date for non-central locations.
Terms and conditions
- Film parking permits are not valid for use in loading zones; all vehicles parked in loading zones must comply with displayed time restrictions. Standard parking enforcement will apply.
- Film parking permits are not valid for use in P2, P5, P10 or P15 time restricted zones; all vehicles parked in these zones must comply with displayed time restrictions. Standard parking enforcement will apply.
- Film parking permits are not valid for use in prohibited parking zones such as on broken yellow lines, clearways, bus stops, taxi stands or mobility parking bays. Standard parking enforcement will apply.
- Film parking permits are not valid where an existing temporary traffic management plan is already in place; any clashes will need to be reviewed.
- Film parking permits do not guarantee availability of any parking space. All on-street parking operates on an as-available basis.
- Prior consultation with surrounding businesses and residents must be undertaken to ensure your activity does not unduly affect day to day operations in the area. Failure to do so, may result in film parking permits being revoked.
- AT reserves the right to revoke the permit at any time, including in response to feedback from businesses or residents.
