Major work on Auckland’s train network over King’s birthday weekend and week following Major work on Auckland’s train network over King’s birthday weekend and week following
Date: 23 May 2024
Over six days around Kings Birthday Weekend, KiwiRail is fully replacing a large, crucial piece of track infrastructure that allows trains to change tracks from both directions.
While this is delivered, Auckland’s train network will be closed from late evening on Friday 31 May, until Monday 3 June. Buses will replace trains across the network.
Additionally, from Tuesday 4 June until Thursday 6 June, buses will replace trains on the Western and Southern Lines between Waitemata (Britomart) and Newmarket.
Normal services will resume on Friday 7 June.
Widespread work on every line across the network is also being carried out over the weekend.
We would like to thank Aucklanders for their patience while this essential work is carried out.
Benefits this will bring to the network:
- This will improve Auckland’s largest rail junction at Newmarket, which will improve resilience and reliability ony Southern, Western and Onehunga Line trains.
- Work will also be done on a piece of infrastructure on the Western Line near Kingsland, which will improve flexibility for supporting events at Eden Park.
