The Auckland Transport Board held an out of cycle meeting today to consider two important matters for approval.

Items for approval

 

Regional Land Transport Plan 2024-2034 (RLTP) – the Board approved the RLTP for submission to New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

The Board heard from Group Manager Transport System Strategy and Policy, Hamish Bunn, noting:

  • The Regional Transport Committee (RTC) is satisfied that the RLTP complies with and contributes to the purpose of the Land Transport Management Act 2003 and is consistent with the 2024 Government Policy Statement on Land Transport.
  • The assessment of the RLTP’s alignment to Auckland Council’s emissions reduction objectives.
  • The RTC has recommended the RLTP to the Board for approval.
  • Auckland Council’s Transport and Infrastructure Committee has endorsed the RLTP to the Board for approval.
  • The addition of the $503 million Level Crossings Removal Takanini Stage Two Project, signalled in the draft RLTP, has now been confirmed.

The Board approved changes to Auckland Transport’s capital programme recommended by the RTC and agreed to these changes being carried through to the 2024/25 Annual Capital Budget when it is updated in September/October 2024 to reflect decisions in the National Land Transport Plan.

Councillor Chris Darby commented that national funding for state highway improvements and Roads of National Significance should also cover associated projects and improvements, which have historically been funded locally.

Statement of Intent 2024-2027 (SOI) – The Board approved the SOI ahead of submission to Auckland Council.

The Board heard from Corporate Planning and Performance Lead, Sean Cavanagh, noting that the final SOI has been updated in response to Board feedback and engagement since 25 June 2024.

Chief Executive Dean Kimpton commented that he was very pleased with the process and with AT’s progressively improving performance. He noted his confidence in AT’s ability to deliver on the key performance indicators outlined in the SOI.
