  • Industry: travel and tourism
  • Number of staff: 100

Solution: By offering their employees 50% off public transport through Fareshare, they were able to able to achieve all these goals. Auckland Transport takes care of the programme’s administration, from onboarding to monthly invoicing, making Fareshare an easy choice.

Results:

  • Between March 2022 and May 2024, GoSee staff travelled more than 116,000km on public transport.
  • During this same period, GoSee staff saved 15.7 tonnes of carbon emissions by taking public transport.
  • On average, 57% staff use the Fareshare subsidy each month.

GoSee’s Fareshare journey

In March 2022, GoSee began their Fareshare journey with a 25% subsidy. After receiving continued positive feedback from their staff, they decided to increase their subsidy amount to 50% in February 2024.

Uptake and cost

Fareshare costs GoSee an average of $15 to 20 a month per registered employee. In 2024, 57% GoSee staff are using the 50% subsidy regularly.

Detailed results

Over the last 2 years, GoSee staff have contributed more than 11,500 boardings to total patronage numbers and have travelled 116,745km around Tāmaki Makaurau.

Between March 2022 and May 2024, GoSee staff saved 15.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions (tCO2e) by taking public transport, compared to driving a standard-sized petrol vehicle. To remove the same amount of carbon from our atmosphere over the course of one year, you’d have to plant 3,348 Tītoki (New Zealand oak) trees.

Carbon emissions data

The petrol vehicle emissions factor is a weighted average based on a single-occupancy, standard-sized motor vehicle.

Of GoSee's bus patronage data, 5% had an unknown engine type. We used a weighted average of electric and diesel buses in the network for the carbon emissions factor.

Distances travelled are calculated like for like for car versus public transport. This may vary on a trip-by-trip basis.

Carbon factors used are sourced from the Ministry for the Environment and are accurate as of May 2024.

Fareshare boosts in-person collaboration

People and Culture administrator Amelia-Rose McShane talks about the difference Fareshare has made for their people and their organisation.

Working from home has gone down
We are seeing more staff coming in to work rather than working from home. Staff have told us that Fareshare makes getting work much more affordable, and they really appreciate that we lifted the subsidy to 50%. In one case, an employee reported that they are now inspired to come to the office every day.

We find collaborating in person more efficient and better for mental health, as it boosts socialisation and strengthens peer relationships. Providing a 50% subsidy encourages people to come in more often, especially since the government removed public transport subsidies for young people in May 2024.

Fareshare onboarding was simple for everyone

Several of our staff reported that it took about 5 minutes to sign up and that their discount was ready to use within 24 hours.

I was given all the necessary documentation for a seamless transition from the old method of applying to the new and improved version. AT business development manager Shamima Lone was and continues to be a great help.
