Peak train services to run every 20 minutes from tomorrow as industrial action continues Peak train services to run every 20 minutes from tomorrow as industrial action continues

Date: 9 June 2024

All train services at peak times will be running at a reduced frequency from tomorrow due to ongoing industrial action by unionised Auckland One Rail (AOR) staff.

Auckland Transport (AT) is advising commuters to plan ahead as peak train services will only be operating every 20 minutes.

AT’s rail operator AOR is running a reduced timetable to cover a shortage of train staff due to industrial action, which began on Saturday, 8 June.

We currently do not know when this industrial action will be resolved, says AT Rail Franchise Manager Craig Inger.

“AOR has been in collective bargaining with the Rail and Maritime Union of New Zealand and we are disappointed that it has come to industrial action, impacting many of our customers,” he says.

“We understand how deeply frustrating this will be for our rail customers, who have already had to endure ongoing disruption while we work with our partners to prepare the rail network for the opening of the City Rail Link (CRL).

“We understand AOR and the union will be meeting for mediation next week in order to obtain a timely resolution. We encourage both parties to meet and continue bargaining in order to prevent on-going disruption to Aucklanders,” Mr Inger says.

Off-peak and weekend services are still running to their regular frequency.

There may be some additional cancellations due to staff shortages.
