It is the obligation of all parties (including Auckland Transport) who intend to work on the road network, to apply for a Corridor Access Request (CAR) and coordinate using the planning map in MyWorksites. However, in some cases this can be too late in the piece and can cause delay, that is when the Works Coordination team step in to help.
The Works Coordination Team coordinate future internal and external projects. The team work to understand the potential impact on the transport network during construction and to provide guidance to Project Managers/agents.

Future project advice from the Works Coordination team
By engaging early with the Works Coordination team, the Project Manager/agents will have more certainty of what will be required by the road corridor access team, to receive a Works Access Permit (WAP) and enable their project to progress to construction smoothly.
Once you have engaged with The Works Coordination team, if necessary, a member of the team will contact you and may recommend attending a Coordination and/or a Pre-Traffic Management Plans (TMP) Review with AT specialists, to give guidance to facilitate your project and streamline your approvals. AT specialist (Service Disruptions, Transportation Engineer, Road Corridor Access Coordinator, ATOC Traffic Engineer and others specialist that may be required). Will then advise on requirements and recommendations.
Please note: if your works is at least 1 month from construction, then this is too late to start engaging with us, our focus is on Future projects so the earlier you engage with us the better. Even if you are two plus years away from construction, we still encourage you to engage with us to kick off early engagement with AT specialists.

When you should notify the Works Coordination Team about a future project
Project managers/agents should involve the Works Coordination team if the project fits at least one of these criteria’s by completing the Future Projects Notification form.
Please note: if your works is at least 1 month from construction, then this is too late to start engaging with us
If your project is:
- located on a road with high traffic volume, or is an arterial route,
- likely to be of long duration, (1 week plus of work, depending if it will have a big disruption on the network)
- in an area with other projects planned or under construction,
- construction methodology requires high impact traffic management e.g., road closure,
- the project is expected to create a significant impact on road users.
Step 1: Fill in and submit the Future Projects Notification Form (for external and Council projects only)
We only require you to complete this form once for each project. Do not complete this form if your works are already in the construction phase.
You can fill in the form without having a MyAT account, but if you log into MyAT you will:
- get a confirmation email with a reference number
- all correspondence will link to your profile.
If you do not have a MyAT account, create one first by registering for MyAT.
Step 2: Works coordination team review
The form will be submitted to the Works Coordination Team to review your project and provide advice if project coordination is needed to assist with your planning and works approval process.
The Works Coordination team aim to get back to you within 5-10 working days.
If you have any urgent enquiries about the request, email them to workscoordination@at.govt.nz. Include the reference number you received from submitting the form to the Works Coordination team.
The information that you have provided us will only be shared internally for technical review.
Step 3: Coordination and Pre-Traffic Management Plan reviews
The Works Coordination team may request you to attend a coordination review and/or a pre-TMP review.
Coordination review
For projects that are in the initial stages of their works and have not got Traffic Management plans or a contractor on board.
The purpose – Platform for AT specialists to review and understand works that are due to come into the network and to provide feedback. Also connect the project teams with AT specialists to start early engagement, which can then lead to pre-TMP reviews (when the project teams are ready).
Pre-Traffic Management Plan (TMP) Review
when the project team have clarity on their construction methodology, which can be presented either as a draft-TMP, rough drawing or may have appointed a contractor who can explain their construction methods.
The purpose – Platform for AT specialists to provide any considerations and recommendations to the project team, as well as to provide guidance to the projects teams earlier in the piece to ensure they have smoother process when applying for a Corridor Access Request (CAR).
Utilities uploading work into Forward Works Viewer (FWV)
AT follows international best practices and has established a dig once policy to protect transport and underground utility assets and to make sure as much of the roading network as possible is available to the public.
The requirements for coordination are laid down in the Utilities Access Act 2010 and the related National Code of Practice for Utility Operators' Access to Transport Corridors which was developed by the New Zealand Utilities Advisory Group.
If you are a utility operator or a project manager for a utility operator who undertakes work on the road network, please upload to the LINZ Forward Works Viewer. It is important to load your future works as this system connects to the AT internal mapping system, which is used to coordinate works.
