Grey Lynn Residential Parking Zone Extension Grey Lynn Residential Parking Zone Extension
Proposal status: Closed
Reference number: RTV-482
Proposal outcome
In October 2023, we re-consulted on an amended proposal to extend the Grey Lynn Residential Parking Zone (RPZ). After reviewing all the feedback we received, we will not be extending the Grey Lynn RPZ.
Overall, the community told us that they would not benefit from these changes. The cost of the residential parking permit, and the negative financial impact it would have on residents was a common theme in the feedback we received.

Project update - October 2023
In June 2023, we proposed extending the Grey Lynn Residential Parking Zone (RPZ). After reviewing all the feedback we received, we are re-consulting on an updated proposal.
We are now proposing to extend the Grey Lynn Residential Parking Zone to include:
- 194 to 244 Richmond Road
- 1 to 19 Sackville Street
- 2 to 34 Sackville Street
- Both sides of Westmoreland Street East
We are no longer proposing to include the northern side of Richmond Road.

We are aware that the introduction of could impact parking on the surrounding residential streets unless restrictions are applied.
We encourage residents to respond to this consultation as final decisions will be based on the feedback we receive. Based on resident feedback, this proposal will either proceed with no major changes, or not go ahead.
A summary of the feedback we received during the initial consultation and our responses can be found below.

We're proposing improvements in your area
In response to community requests to improve parking availability and flexibility, we are proposing to extend the Grey Lynn Residential Parking Zone (RPZ) to include:
- 194 to 244 Richmond Road
- 215 to 247 Richmond Road
- Both sides of Westmoreland Street East

The Grey Lynn RPZ has a time restriction of 2 hours (P120), and operates from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. Residents living within the RPZ can apply for a residential parking permit or coupons which will exempt them from the time restriction. Read more about RPZs here.
The proposed RPZ extension aims to:
- Provide greater parking availability for residents and visitors. The 2-hour time restriction supports parking for business customers and casual residential visitors, while preventing non-resident long-term parking.
- Reduce the number of vehicles driving around looking for parking spaces. Fewer circling vehicles should also reduce noise, pollution, and improve pedestrian safety.
- Discourage parked vehicles from obstructing driveways, as more parking will be available.
The proposed extension area would be subject to the same terms and conditions as the existing Grey Lynn RPZ, including a yearly permit application fee.
